Course Description
Wildfires, flooding, and other emergency situations have a major impact on community members’ physical, mental, spiritual, and financial well-being, and on a Nation’s sovereignty and cultural integrity. This course is designed specifically to help Indigenous emergency managers conduct a resilience based risk assessment to determine vulnerabilities and develop a continuity of operations, services, and support for their Nation administration or department.
This course is also relevant to health departments, child and family services, corporate development organizations, education, and other Indigenous-led groups.

Number of days allocated to the course: 2
Morning Breaks: 9:30am – 9:45am
Lunch Breaks: 12:00pm – 1:00pm
Afternoon Breaks: 2:30pm – 2:45pm

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Define and apply core resilience based risk assessment concepts.
Develop a comprehensive assessment.
Leverage local knowledge, cultural traditions, and Indigenous practices to shape the program.
Identify and engage key partners to foster sustained collaboration.
Identify timeline and steps to complete the implementation of the assessment and report.
